If we are thinking in an either/or fallacy, then fixing our collective addictions seems like a pointless task. But with the right social policies, we can reduce our addictions.

Our addiction with tobacco is a great example. In 1960, about 60% of Canadians smoked. Non-smokers were expected to put out ashtrays for their smoking visitors.

About 1990, the addiction went down to 20%--for a variety of reasons, including government actions. We should celebrate that. We should learn from that.

For some reason, the next several decades could not reduce the addiction rate any further. While I have my hypothesis for this failure, but I believe that all addictions can be reduced.

The vaping marketers have successfully inculcated their vileness into too many of our youth. A better system of governance would be better on top of this social change.
