I'm 64. I never understood the desire to retire until a couple of years ago. I have lost a lot of stamina. There is no desire to go back to a busy life.
A former classmate died a couple years ago. He was healthy. He broke his arm, which caused a blood clot. He died. Anyone can have something like this happen. Old age is only an increase in that probability.
We need to move away from individuals as political leaders. Rather we need institutions and committees. We have to learn how to work together. In this way, older people can still participate. Younger people, with not enough life experience, can participate--and get that experience. No one is overworked.
