I’m from western Canada, and many of our roads and streets are laid out in a north-south or east-west orientation. Then I spent two years in Europe, when many roads seem to be cow trails of a thousand years ago. Roads and streets went haphazardly. My N-S and E-W logic did not work for me. I had to find a new, which often required a city map.
For some reason, I found navigating a lot harder when I returned to Canada. Europe kind of wrecked me somehow.
I had a lot more confidence navigating when GPS came around.
