I'm seeing this a little differently. Too many Republicans are seeing the possibility of a one-Party state--and they want to be on the right side if that movement happens. Being on the other side has big risks, like jail.

Hence many Republicans are positioning themselves for both outcomes of the fight of "democracy vs. dictorship."

There isn't a lot of political downside for being wishy-washy in disicplining extreme part members in these times.

It's a strange world.
