I'm unfamiliar with these movies & shows, so I can't comment on whether they are moving the world forward or backward.
Trouble is that conflict sells and cooperation is boring.
About four years ago, I was convinced to write some stories about my alternative governance. Such fiction would be a different way to teach about this system.
There's not a lot of conflict in the first three novels. Characters are bumping their egos a little bit here and there, but generally they are getting along and working together----which is the culture of this alternative governance.
My intent was to demonstrate how average people that they can build this new democracy. It really is not that difficult. But without "blockbuster" conflict, it's hard to get people into stories.
