Imagine yourself a politician in the West. You could have called a quasi-quarantine early because the experts told you too. And let’s say that quarantine actually worked. Very few people got infected and a lot fewer died. Then comes election day. Your political opponents will gladly say that you forced people to stay in your house for two months for a disease that was not really there. All the experts backing your decision won’t matter when it comes time to count votes. You are kicked out of office for doing the right thing at the right time.
Sorry Umair and his readers, there is a fundamental distrust of governments in the west. This distrust is so large that politicians really have to wait almost until it is too late to react.
It is time to look at another way to govern. Western democracy has failed.
