In 1963, Canada changed its national flag from a Union Jack derivative to what it is today. The country went into one big collective fistfight over that change.
Our national anthem is fluffy. I'm not sure what the internal messaging is (or supposed to be).
"This Land is My Land" is indeed a better choice for the USA.
