In 1984, Senator Gary Hart had to drop out the D primary because he was caught with a young girl on a boat. No proof of a sexual liaison was ever established. Fourteen years later, the D's in the Senate (and many in the D voting base) condone an obvious sexual liaison from their president. Times sure did change.
Will the D's use the antics of Mr. Gaetz to turn some of the traditional non-voters their way?
They might not try. They might try. If they try, it might have a positive effect. Or it could backfire.
Politics is so unpredictable.
It's another sign that we need a different kind of democracy.
