In an ideal world, Umair is 100% correct. But the world is not ideal. The minute we start censoring something because it is “bad”, it opens a Pardora’s box for censoring other things.

As for Medium getting “censorship” right,” I would say that Medium got lucky. It has attracted a higher intellectual level of discourse. With this higher level of discourse, it is hard to find conservative writers and thinkers on Medium because it’s hard to defend many conservative values in a logical, rational way — when there are so many effective left-of-center writers on Medium quite capable of exposing the fallacy of much conservative thought.

In other words, I don’t think Medium censors anything. They have some rules on civility, which is good. But conservative thinkers are more likely to go to other platforms and preach to their own choir. So the problem is not really solved, is it?

So should those of who are wiser than the masses demand to have those conservative platforms shut down? See the Pandora’s box here?

How about this: why don’t the more capable of left-of-center Medium contributors spend some time on conservative websites to preach the left side of the political spectrum? The righties would just love to have Umair articles to mock and deride. But it is plausible that Umair’s articles will change the thinking of a few of them, which is what we want, right?

In other words, we Medium readers are just as guilty of participating in our own echo chamber as the right side of the spectrum.
