In my home town, there is a rock band that does cover music for the 50s and 60s. I enjoy listening to their live music.

They all have full time jobs, get together once a week for practice and get about 10 gigs a year, which probably doesn't even pay for the equipment they have brought. But they sure have fun.

Most musicians are not going to make living with their music. But they enjoy their craft.

Likewise, writers need to take the same approach. It's a very competitive profession, with many talented people wanting high paying gigs. And when they land the big time, there is sometimes a big price to pay (like oppressive deadlines and corporate editing).

I'm living in the world of "lack of enthusiasm". My main topic is not resonating with anyone. After 23 years, I'm still an echo chamber of one.

I could go "all in," but the most likely result is my family facing bankruptcy. Not a good prospect.

But it is a good hobby. I spend less on my writing than other men spend on the golf course. And my wife likes me being at home. But even she thinks I'm crazy.
