In my Medium world, there is often discussion that, with a weakened Russia, China would find it easy to annex Russia's far east (and Mongolia). Some respondents say that China need not bother with a formal annexation because China has--or will soon have--economic power over these regions. In other words, they would be vassal states: independent but . . . .
