In my town, we had a fellow who was expelled from Prussia. His family was not wanted in Germany and eventually found their way to Canada.
He became an artist (sculptor & painter), using his art to express his understanding of his childhood expulsion. I conversed with him a few times at his exhibitions. When he told his story, he never came to terms with what his people had done.
Maybe he was right in his innocence. Whether we like or not, whether right or wrong, there are often collective consequences as well as individual consequences.
