In "Political Order & Political Decay," Francis Fukuyama is against trying new ways to organize society. If I recall correctly, his claim is something like: "Because we know the current ways, we can work with them. But new ways are unpredictable--and could lead to total breakdown of society."
The fact that you have mentioned two groups trying new ways suggest the current ways are also breaking down.
I'm afraid we won't hear much innovation from the political science field.
