Interesting on the abolishment of the counties.

Are the people in the "counties" tied to a municipality?

My region in SE Alberta recently tried an amalgamation of one city (actually a big town), one smaller town, three villages, and the county into one political jurisdiction. That did not go over well.

The local people had their say in this matter, but municipalities in Canada exist on the whim of the provincial governments. There is no legal means for their continued existance.
