Interesting title--and it sure went in an interesting direction.

There are three popular writers who show up on my feed. One writer I follow, but probably shouldn't any more. The other two I don't follow, but Medium thinks I need to read more of their articles. I've heard rumors of the earnings of these writers. If true, they are overpaid.

All three writers remind me of a comical definition of a liberal: "Someone who writes a book about the rich exploit the poor; the book sells very well; the liberal starts looking for tax loopholes." I got this from MAD magazine 45 years ago. It's amazing what has stuck in my head.

Those who win the Medium lottery are frustrating to many just-as-good writers who didn't win. Why them? Why not me?

I have designed a different way for Medium to select articles for feeds:

https://medium.com/tiered-democratic-governance/the-four-tiers-of-medium-writers-a21683a9ea53

As the supply of writers is greater than the demand, I'm not sure this system will produce a satisfactory remuneration for effort expended. But I think it will transfer some income from the higher earners on Medium to the lower earners. And we readers will know there is a reason other than luck as to why some good writers are selected over other good writers.
