Interesting way to frame this discussion.
It's all about social engineering.
From 1910 to 1960, tobacco companies engineered us to believe smoking was a great recreational activity. Even non-smokers had to proffer ashtrays to their smoking visitors. Then, anti-smoking activists changed the engineering. I'm happy I don't have to sit in a bus next to smoker.
Today there is a fair degree of unity with smoking laws. In 1950, there was also unity: smokers had the right to smoke anywhere and non-smokers had to put up with it.
As for abortion, the unity is not there. Should one side get its way over the other? I like to think that there is a higher court than anything we on Earth can muster. That court will judge accordingly.
But until there unity, let's side on side of freedom.
