Prior to November 3, 2020, CNN was proffering up stories of people converting away from the Trump base into the real world--almost as if this were a real trend. But Mr. Trump got more votes than he did in 2016.

The aftermath of January 6 insurrection exposes the real intent of the Republican Party: they think they can takeover the American government and turn it into a one-party state.

The winner of the recent Virginia gubernatorial election is unimportant. What is important is that 30% of eligible voters voted for the future one-party rule. Sorry, the 30% believe they are better off with a Republican oligarchy than a democracy.

Articles like this one, well written and thought out as they are, are unlikely to change many minds. The Trump base are not likely to see them, let alone read them. And that 30% has invested a lot of their personal identity and social circles into their current political position. Even if they figure out they are wrong, they are not likely to change their mind. It is hard to give up their psychological imprinting.

I hope I'm wrong. But the best we can hope for is for the USA to bumble along with its current "Model T" democracy.
