It is a paradox that Americans hold their constitution so sacrosanct, yet the people who wrote it were so flawed.

Another angle that is hardly ever mentioned is that rich Loyalists were driven out of the colonies. While they took their mobile wealth to Upper Canada, Nova Scotia, or England, they left behind their big houses and land, which were confiscated by the new authorities. In other words, many of the "freedoms" did not apply to these people.

It's time for a new constitution. Methinks MAGA has one in mind.
