I've always wanted to write an article like this.

Pushing the responsibility to the politicians only convinces the rest of us that we don't have to do anything ourselves. And, of course, politicians foster this belief because they like to get elected again.

I worked in the petroleum industry for many years. Even early in my career, I saw that we needed to have a substantial tax on fuels--if we were to wean ourselves of this addiction. Petroleum is only a technological stepping stone for where we really need to be.

We need a new system of governance.
