I've been banking in Canada for many years. It is interesting to see how bank invent new charges. Generally I don't complain. My strategy is to find out what these charges are and then work around them. Unfortunately, most consumers are not that savvy. The banks do get away with it.

Most of my banking is done with my credit union, which also has its own interesting fee structure. This way, excessive profits work back to pay a pretty dividend on my credit union shares.
