I've been out of Canadian politics for 30 years. My understanding of the trends is that elected representatives are spending less time overseeing legislation and more time pressing the flesh. This means legislation is less in the hands of the people supposedly accountable.

I am preparing a serious of articles about "politics" vs. "governance." Governance is about discussing the issues, alternatives, and making a decision. Politics is about who occupies the chairs.
