I've been thinking more about this article.

The donkey and elephant are symbols whose meaning has become lost. Most people just associate the donkey with the D's and the elephant with the R's. Even with the 1960's realignment of the two parties, the symbols stayed the same.

Same goes for American democracy. Most people just take everything for granted. Democracy has become a tradition, not a philosophy.

The political parties in Canada have had some changes to their logos over the years. But I would be hard pressed to describe the current logos they use, let alone the previous ones. Hmmmm.
