I’ve been thinking more about this article, especially the phrase that suggested “charity” = “non governmental organization.”

My understanding of charity of a century ago, it was fairly hodge-podge and arbitrary. While such charities did ease the conscience of rich people for being rich, the charities were not all that effective in reforming society. And that is why many social programs have been taken over by governments.

Although the terminology has changed, these elite meetings are very similar to the fundraising of yesterday. They are a place for the philanthropists and the leaders to connect. Have we really changed in this time?

One thing is for sure. I won’t be invited to these elite meetings. I belong to the lower middle class. And I have an ordinary job.
