I've got a few years in the Canadian petroleum industry. Not much gets done without someone making a business calculation at sometime.

It would be interesting to see the spreadsheets behind these two scenarios: (1) appropriate maintenance vs. (2) reduced maintenance & law suits.

This is anecdotal, but a few years ago, it seemed the two main railway operators in Canada were have regular derailments. And it seemed the cleanups had become routine. Somehow these companies could amass the crews and equipment to get the railway going again within a few days.

And then the derailments stopped. The reasons could be:

1) Less attention from the media

2) Government started enforcing regulations

3) The two companies realized that reduced maintenance was not profitable and adjusted their spreadsheets.

On another note: I think there are a couple of top writers on Medium already use some AI to write their articles.
