Jane: I too have had a life history of taking jobs I really didn’t want, but those jobs were the best available at the time. But the reality is that most Americans won’t head to the fields to pick lettuce, apples, watermelons, etc. for $20 an hour, let alone $5 an hour. The USA would have to do without this food if the border were truly closed. All the wishing for more self-reliance from other citizens will not solve the problem.
