John. I live in a Conservative part of Canada. In both my provincial and federal constituencies, the Conservative will win. The Conservatives could put a fencepost on the ballot and still win. They could nominate Bealzabub and still win. The Liberals could nominate Jesus and still lose.

The result of the next two rounds of general elections is already known in advance. My region will elect a Conservative for at least the next decade.

The real contest is the Conservative nomination meetings. But these meetings are mostly about who can bring the most supporters to the meeting and vote for them. There is very little testing for capacity for governance in these contests.

If the real election is the nomination meeting (the Canadian version of the American primary), then less than 5% of the people are deciding who gets sent to the legislature to represent them.

At least a third of Canadian constuencies are in this position. They will send the same party in each election.

When less than 5% of the people decided, I call this fuedalism.
