John: I'm not so sure there is an average American like you described.
I would say 30% of Americans would belong in your definition. That is a significant political force that has been building for years and will take years to dissapate. This group is not going away soon--even if many of them are finding disfavour with Mr. Trump. They will just find another messiah. This is the group that is glued to the Hunter laptop. There is very little that is going to unstick them in the short term.
Then there's the 30% of average Amercians who recognize the signs of a possible oligarchic rule. Some are putting in effort to prevent this; some are content to just vote. Most of these voters are not in favor of Hunter Biden getting that cushy job, but they are overlooking this issue because the bigger picture is so much bigger.
And then there is the traditional non-voters which probably amount to 40%. Some of this group were convinced by negative advertising of the opposing party. Some don't care about the oligarchy. Some don't see much difference between the two parties. If the D's could convince a third of this group to vote for them, then there won't be so many elections with close results.
The issue of nepotism or perceived nepotism is another reason for some of the 40% not to make the effort to vote. We can blame them for taking this issue too seriously. We could arge that the "right-wing disinformation carriers" have done their job; it is these voters' right to vote the way they want--or not vote at all.
When we are looking at perhaps 230m voters, maybe 5m can be convinced not to vote as the right-wing disinformation campaigns ply their messages. Not a lot, but enough to affect close elections.
If the two Bidens had decided the Burisma deal had bad optics and stayed away, that 5m votes would have given bigger margins in swing states and maybe turned another swing state or two.
You might have the right logic. But the 5m have their own logic. It is their right not to vote if it seems the Democrats are just as corrupt as the Republicans.
