Just my hypothesis here, based on societal shifts I have been seeing from my computer screen in Canada.

There has been an overall aligning of big business and big media. They are seeing a Republican oligarchy in the future, either by the R's winning the November election or by challenging the narrow Democrat victory. If these institutions want a certain status in that oligarchy, they had best get on the bandwagon with that future result.

For example, if Media Outlet LEFTLEFT does not tone down its anti-R rhetoric, it could be shut down within a year.
