Just to be a devil's advocate, I worked for a company in 1981 that put a lot of money into training me. I left two years later to start a business. Did they get a good return on their money? I don't know.
The business required me to train out new employees. For about three months, they were getting a wage but not really bringing in much money. It took another three months of on-the-job experience before they got real good at their jobs. In the meantime, I had to deal with their screwups.
Two weeks notice would have been a joke in terms of being able to replace them. But I would have been happy to have that two weeks than an abrupt quit.
Workers are not loyal anymore. They leave when they find a better offer on get annoyed. Companies are not doing things to create loyalty. It is just too expensive.
