The political party provides a brand name for voters to base their vote. This is just part of good marketing strategy to acquire status, influence, and power. It works great for those overly ambitious people who enter the field of politics. The brand name is more important than their previous achievements.

One common theme to improve American democracy is the replacing the electoral college with popular vote. While there are pros and cons to this change, the same kind of people will be elected as before — and the same kind of people will be left on the outside to only play the part of watchers. In other words, having this debate to “change democracy in America” is only a distraction of what is truly wrong.
