Last week, I bought some new furniture. Coming with the furniture is almost the same mass of cardboard and styrofoam to keep the furniture undamaged in transit. Cardboard can be recycled, but there is still an environmental cost for that recycling. Styrofoam, in my locality, is not recyclable. so to the landfill it goes. "We cannot continue like this:" I was thinking.

I have to agree that we will be forced to do things much differently a generation from now. Coastal areas may indeed be too costly to inhabit--and people will migrate inland.

Humans can be quite ingenious. I think we will adapt. But for sure, the same lifestyle is not possible.
