"Loses Badly" is the operative word. I suggest at least a 65/35 split is for the R's to reform themselves. I don't think that 65/35 split is going to happen.
A 55/45 split will only encourage the R's to keep to the same path.
Regardless of 35 or 45, there's enough radical R's to make things very difficult in the next five years with civil unrest. While the various justice agencies are pursuing a reasonable and necessary path, the radical R's are ready for something bigger.

The changes you are have outlined have been well discussed, but they won't remove the political party from the equation. All political parties are bastions of overly ambitious people climbing over each other for status, influence, and power. This dysfunction (or toxicity) permeates governance and society-at-large.

My research into the 17th amendment says it took 30 years to go from a serious idea to actual implementation. The changes you have outlined may be somewhere in a similar transition. Even if they are effected in the next decade, will the USA be governed any better?
I think my alternative democracy will take 10 to 20 years to implement-----after 1% of the population agrees to put some effort into it.
