Many Medium political commentators complain that the USA has never been a true democracy. It has been ruled much by bid money since the start. More like a plutocracy with a democratic facade.

The USA was the first country to oust its political leaders at the ballot box. A big improvement, but still more of a plutocracy than a republic (IMO).
