Marley: this whole impeachment process is not about removing Mr. Trump from office. It is about the Democrats shoring up their soft support for next November. If they did not go through their constitutional right to harrass Mr. Trump is this way, the soft support would stay home and not vote, giving Mr. Trump an easy victory.
I think any political watcher realizes the Senate Trial is not going to convict. There are bigger political forces that what you have mentioned. If the R’s are not careful, they can also experience an electoral fallout. I’m betting money that they will be careful in this regard, keeping their voter base intact and not antagonize the non-voters too much.
But strange things do happen in politics. Like the D’s nominating a candidate that should have not been nominated in the belief that ANYONE could have defeated the candidate the R’s proffered? Now, that was strange.
