Mixed feelings.

We have a minor baseball league team in my Canadian town. Most of the players come from the college system in the USA. I enjoy the evening watching the game on a nice summer night, not really interested in who wins or loses. There is a bit of a magic happening. Time and money permitting, I could probably watch all 25 games. But I only made four games this year. They were all great!

While a lot of money changes hands for each game, no one really becomes a better person or moves society forward. The Argentines celebrated for a few days when their team won the World Cup. But after the party, all the same problems appeared.

Professional is a distraction. A little distraction is a good thing. But when the distraction gets obsessive . . .

And there is an addictive nature to professional sports:

We give too much importance to professional sports. We need to spend a lot of that time, money, and energy elsewhere. Some of that should be dedicated to kids' sports. Sports are great life lessons.
