Modern, moderate, political parties also create a culture of belonging. My six years as an active volunteer gave me some purpose to my life, as I (and others) were saving the country from the other political parties. We became blind to other ways of running the country.

But we didn't take it to the level of henchmen and violent acts. But it's not hard for me to see how things could go that way.
