Mr. Trump is an old man. If he passes away soon, his movement will stumble. Maybe the Republicans will regain some sanity, but more likely they will find another cult-like figure. Mr. Trump has shown that person how open the door really is.

Or Mr. Trump might be on the scene for another 15 years. He has an immense amount of energy for an unhealthy old man, dogged by many, many scandals.

Unfortunately, those of us on the outside of the political process no longer have any control over of the short-term future of the USA.

For the longer term, it is time to build a new democracy.
