My antedotal experience is that conservatism can no longer defend itself in a logical debate. For example, Jordan Peterson does not like socialism but cannot explain why Canada did not descend into gulags and secret police when it nationalized health care in 1969.

Maybe values are changing. But maybe the conservatives are no longer finding the capable spokespeole. Or maybe all these socialist ideas are proving to have merit.
