My hypothesis was that if the Russian occupation of Ukraine had actually happened, Russia would have moved into everywhere between Finland and Bulgaria. NATO would have folded like a wet noodle, fearing war with an equivalent adversary.

The Ukrainians fought back. The Russian military may be large, but it turned out to be a fourth-rate machine. Had these two situations not happened, history would be different today.
