My political crystal ball says that at least 5m Republicans voters will not vote in November. This should be enough to ensure a D victory.

But my crystal ball also says a narrow D victory will bring more violence than a decisively decisive D victory. I'm talking of a 65/35 split or better. And it is possible.

If so, some of us might argue that democracy is working well to get that result. But I will still say that because Mr. Trump was viable contender in the summer of 2016, American democracy is so broken.

It needs to be replaced.
