My wife and I were watching a documentary about the upswing of the prosperity gospel in the past few decades in the USA. It was interesting to watch how these preachers could con thousands of people out of their money. And more than just a few preachers!
Strange part is that even when these contributors know about the lavish lifestyle of the preachers, contributions continue to pour in.
How many Americans fall for this crap? LOTS AND LOTS. Rich and poor. Black and white, Well educated and not so well educated. The conned are a political force. They can be conned in other ways.
Mr. Trump has fealty of the Republicans for one reason: he can deliver the votes.* Sensible political underlings will condone a lot of crap if someone can deliver the votes. This can happen in any political party in any democracy.
Sorry, but I need to plug my TDG again. I challenge your readers to read my book and figure out how someone like Mr. Trump can take over democracy like he has taken over Amercian democracy in the past four years. There is no fealty or allegiance or loyalty in the TDG.

*BTW, I believe there is a good possibility of a major upset on November 3. The D's need only convince 10m of the 108m who didn't vote in 2016 to vote. From what I can see in Canada, the D's are doing things in the right way.
