One correction, though. The people manning the polling stations get paid about $200 for the day, plus another $100 for attending a training session beforehand. Not a lot for a 14-hour day.

The volunteers are the party scrutineers. I didn't see any scrutineer yesterday. These days, in my part of Canada, I might see one scrutineer in my few minutes at the ballot box.

But in a more contested riding, there might be more party scrutineers.
