Nice article and interesting responses.

I think it’s important to understand that many children will not take on the hidden social agenda of the fellow who funded this program. But some will, probably reinforced from other parts of their nurturing environment. It is unlikely a child raised in a progressive-minded family will turn into an adult reactionary because he/she watched too much Paw Patrol. Such a child will watch Paw Patrol for fun.

The next question that should asked: “Are enough children taking on the hidden social agenda because (in part) Paw Patrol affects the future values of society?” I can’t answer that question, but I would say that Paw Patrol probably more reflects our current values than what some wealthy manipulator feels are good values for us. And because it reflects current values, it is more commercially successful — which is probably the primary purpose of the investor.

Should we use children’s programming to shape future societal values? I would say “yes.” But we don’t have much unity in what those future social values could be.
