One CNN analyst said that the R's have no choice. If they abandon Trump, many of that Trump base will not vote in 2022. The R's might even have a better showing with Trump as their de facto leader than without him.

OR maybe high level R's see the possibility of a coup in the next two years. They want to be on the right side of that coup, which can bring lots of career advancement and financial gain.

To me, the coup better explains their seemingly suicidal behavior of the R's. Mr. Trump has at least 100,000 supporters willing to die for his cause. He need only say the word--and Democratic state legislatures will be occupied by people with guns. So too will the offices of CNN and other "fake media" outlets. High profile opponents (like Caren White) just might find themselves being followed all day by pickup trucks. And Mr. Trump is finding his own social media to spend that word.

32% may not be enough to win a mostly fair election. But that 32% has been trained to believe that such an election will be rigged. One in three is enough to attempt a coup.

Until the Trump poll goes down to 10%, American democracy is very fragile.
