Our electoral systems have become a competition for status, influence, and power. Having an attitude of service to society will not get one elected. A true progressive would not run for public office in such a climate.

If we want real change, we need a new electoral system.

But our progressives are only progressive anymore in the tiniest and narrowest of ways. They don’t care about humankind — they barely even care about the people down the block, like the Democrats or Britain’s Labour Party. They don’t want to upset the status quo — they want to restore it. And they don’t seem to be interested in long-term survival, prosperity, discovery, or maturity at all. Just in expediency and short-term “policy”.
