People are mad, and I'm not sure even they know why they are mad. The increase in rents is a main irritating factor. There may be other reasons.

One of the policy changes (after the crisis was deemed to be a crisis) was making building of new apartment buildings GST- exempt. This 5% reduction in building supplies was enough to get investors to finance this kind of construction.

Good policy? Or band-aid solution?

A better solution would have to create housing co-ops (in my opinion). But these require more time to organize.
