Putting a journalist in an investigative position is less tenable these days. Taking three months to write a story — even a great story, is something many media outlets cannot afford.

A while back, I heard an interesting idea. Every citizen could allocate, say, $100 a year to their favorite media outlet. THe government would pay for this allocation but the citizen makes the choice. In this way, the better media outlets are less reliant on advertising revenue — and maybe can put journalists into investigative projects.
