Quonsets were well known in my day, but more as vehicle storage, repair shops, and small factories. Probably recycled after the families did not want them anymore. Quonsets were easy to move around.
I owned a house in Edmonton that was built for the returning soldiers. Smaller than a bungalow, but something an average handyman could have put together. Not too many building codes back then. House is still there.
It would be harder for them to catch on fire, for sure. Probably easier to repair after a flood.
