Rachel:
Like Sam, I too predicted that Kamala Harris would win in November. She was a reasonable candidate and the party employed a reasonable strategy. In fact, I was expecting a fairly big upset. I was wrong.
Like most analysts, I thought Ukraine would be fully taken over in about one month. I was wrong.
Unlike most analysts, I thought it was possible that Mr. Trump could be president in July 2016.
I would say that 10% to 15% of Canadians would prefer a union with the United States. That is a significant political force.
That 15% is supporting the political party that is destined to win the next election. It is exhibiting a lot of Trump-like behavior. Maybe having that party in power is enough to not mass the armies at the border. I don't know.
It has been said the the army generals will follow the constitution, not the president. But the president has the power to hire and fire generals. He will find the right generals. I suspect his people have been talking to the generals since 2020.
Will American soldiers refuse to "fight" Canada. Some will. But many have been conditioned to obey the constitution--and if the president says Canada needs to be conquered, the soldiers will.
Will Canadians resist like the Ukrainians? I have my doubt. The Canadian army is no match for the American army. There will no help from the rest of NATO.
So many things are uncertain. The USA invading Canada is plausible. Maybe it is master ideological plan. Maybe it is dementia. Maybe it is distracting rhetoric designed to cover up a massive kleptocracy.
But when a loaded gun is brought to a drunken party . . .
