I had a girlfriend that was a worker for the Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia. From her stories and a few others, I gleaned the people were ready to come out and face their oppressors when the critical mass was too big to throw them all in jail. When the fear is gone, THEY cannot govern.

I'm not so sure we in the western nations can make a similar change. There is still is considerable support for western democracy.

My solution is to build a new kind of democracy. We build it outside the current democracy. When the current democracy falls--for whatever reason, the new system will be ready to take over.
